While numerous platforms retreat behind content moderation and censorship to appease investors, we're taking a different path. Of course, we maintain strict guidelines against illegal activities, and we ensure responsible moderation on all public pages. But our fundamental belief is that everyone should have a safe, private space to explore their deepest desires. Translating this vision into reality requires your help. It allows you to do things like change your username, toggle NSFW settings, and manage your subscription. To access these options, select the profile picture in the top right corner of the screen. ### Username Your username is your unique account identifier, and the name other users will see for you on SpicyChat. You can change it at any time by navigating to “Username” on the Profile Settings page. To complete your changes, scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Update” to save them.
### Chat Name Your name is how you will appear in chat, it will show up on the messages you send, and is how characters will refer to you. Names do not need to be unique, you can use any name you want, regardless of if another user is using it. You can change your name by navigating to “Name” on the Profile Settings page. When your finished select “Update” at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
### Avatar You can change your profile's avatar by generating or uploading an image in the “Avatar” section of your Profile Settings. This avatar is also the one you will see for yourself when chatting with characters.
* **Uploading An Avatar:** To upload your own image, select “Choose File” and navigate to the file on your device. Your image should be 10 MB or less in size, with 1x1 dimensions, and in JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, AVIF, or JFIF file format. All images uploaded must comply with our [Community Guidelines](/community-guidelines). * **Generating An Avatar:** Select “Generate Avatar” to use SpicyChat’s image generator to create your avatar using a text prompt. If you need help creating a prompt for your image, view the [Image Prompts Guide](/advanced/image-prompts). Once you have generated your avatar or uploaded your image, select “Update” at the bottom of the page to apply your changes. If you would like more information on avatars, view the article [here](/product-guides/creating-chatbots/avatar). ### Highlights Your Highlights will apply to every conversation you have with any character on SpicyChat, they give the characters more context about you to use when chatting. This could be your gender, eye color, hairstyle, or anything else you would like the characters you chat with to know about you.
You can provide this context by navigating to the “Highlights” section in your Profile Settings and entering the desired information. For the best results, it is recommended that you keep your Highlights to one or two sentences, for example: > A strong, tall, blonde man with long hair, brown eyes, and huge muscles. He has rough skin, dresses casually, and can be scary to look at. ### Hiding Explicit Language And Images You can enable and disable the appearance of explicit images and language in your Profile Settings by toggling “Display chatbots with explicit images or languages (NSFW)” off. Alternatively, you can have explicit images be blurred by toggling “Blur explicit images (NSFW)” on. ### Managing Your Subscription You can manage your active subscription by selecting “Manage Subscription” on the Profile Settings page. You can find more information on our Premium Subscriptions [here](/product-guides/premium-features). ### Deleting Your Account You can delete your account by going to your **Profile**, scrolling to the bottom, and opening the **Advanced** section. From there, select **Delete Account** and confirm your choice. {% hint style="danger" %} Please note that account deletion is **permanent**. Once your account is deleted, it can not be restored. {% endhint %} You can, however, use the **same email address** to create a new account after deletion if you choose to return in the future. # Characters On SpicyChat, you can chat with almost a million unique characters created by users just like you! Whether you're looking for casual conversation, immersive roleplay, or NSFW fun, they can do it all! If that wasn’t enough, you can also create your own characters to share with the community, or keep them all to yourself as a private character. With SpicyChat, the possibilities are endless! If you’d like to learn more about how to create characters, check out our full guide [here](/product-guides/creating-chatbots). ### Filters You can filter the characters you are browsing by whether or not they are NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and by the tags associated with them. * **NSFW/SFW:** To filter characters based on whether they’re Safe For Work or Not Safe For Work, simply toggle the NSFW switch on or off, depending on what you're looking for. If you are using SpicyChat for the first time, you’ll need to enable “Display chatbots with explicit images or languages (NSFW)” from within your profile. * **Tags:** If you want to use tags, select which you’d like to include in your results from the “Narrow by tag” menu. You can also exclude tags from your results by pressing the “-” button. Tags allow you to filter characters based on specific traits, scenarios, or genres. You can sort your results by trending characters, the latest additions, most popular, or alphabetically by name. To do this, choose your preferred sorting option from the dropdown menu. To view only the characters created by a specific user on SpicyChat, select their username (located below the chatbots name) or enter it into the search bar. This will show all of the characters that user has created that match your current filters.
### Searching Characters You can also search for characters using the search bar at the top of the character selection screen. It’s a great way to quickly find specific characters, creators, or roleplay scenarios. Your search results will still respect your currently set filters. ### Recommendations SpicyChat will make recommendations for characters that seem like a good fit for you. These are based on several factors, including your favorites, ratings, and the characters you’ve previously chatted with. They are updated regularly based on your activity, so check back often to discover new and exciting characters tailored to what you like the most! The “For You” label highlights characters recommended for you. You can also view a list of characters recommended for you by heading to the “Recommendations” page in the main menu.
### Ratings Ratings help SpicyChat know what characters are really great, or really bad. They also let us get an idea of what type of content you enjoy. You can rate any character you chat with on SpicyChat by clicking the rate icon in the top right corner of the conversation.
From here, you'll then be prompted to choose a rating. * Bad (thumbs down) * Good (thumbs up) * Great (two thumbs up) To get the best recommendations, it’s a good idea to rate as many characters as possible. This helps SpicyChat learn what you like (and what you don’t) so it can suggest the best characters for you. The longer you talk with a character, the more weight your rating will hold. ### Favorites You can favorite any character on SpicyChat by clicking the heart icon in the top left corner of their avatar. You can also add a character to your favorites while chatting with them by clicking the three dots in the top-right corner of the chat and selecting “Add Bot To Favorites.” To view your list of favorite characters, just visit the “Favorites” page from the main menu.
### Character Profile You can view a character’s full profile page to see more detailed information about them by pressing the “i” icon at the top right corner of the character’s avatar. This will take you to the characters profile page, where you can view their title, tags and greeting. * **Black Profile Icon:** A standard character profile that *does not* include the character’s personality, example dialogues and scenario information. * **Purple Profile Icon:** An expanded profile that *does* include the character’s personality, example example dialogues and scenario information Whether or not a profile includes more detailed information is decided by the character’s creator.
### Sharing Characters You can easily share a character via messaging apps, email, or social media directly from the character selection screen. 1. Select the three dots located beside the character's name. 2. Choose the “Share” option. 3. Pick the platform you want to share the character on.
You’ll see quick-share options for these platforms: * Facebook and Facebook Messenger * Reddit * X (formerly Twitter) * Email * Telegram * WhatsApp If you'd like to share a character elsewhere, no problem! The share button also generates a direct link, which you can copy and paste on any app or platform that supports hyperlinks. ### Report A Character If you come across a character on SpicyChat that you believe is inappropriate or violates our [Community Guidelines](/community-guidelines), you can report it for review by our moderation team. 1. Select the three dots next to the character's name on the selection screen, or in the top right of the conversation. 2. Choose the “Report” option. Reporting a character will not exclude them from your feed unless the moderation team decides to remove them from the platform. ### Blocking Creators You can block the creator of a character from the selection screen or within a conversation by selecting the three dots and choosing the “Block Creator” option. Blocking a creator will remove all of their characters from your character feed, favorites, and recommendations. If you decide that you want to unblock a creator at a later time, you can do so by accessing the “Blocked Creators” page, finding the username of the creator you want to remove, and selecting the “Unblock” option.

# Character Chats Chats are the heart of the SpicyChat experience. It’s here where you will interact with characters, engage in NSFW or SFW roleplays, and have deep conversations. Once you've opened a chat, you'll see the characters greeting, all you need to do is reply to get the conversation started! ### Starting A Chat To start a chat, simply find a character you want to talk to and select them. This will open your most recent conversation with that character. If you want to start over with a fresh chat, you can do so right from your current conversation by selecting the three dots in the top right corner and choosing “Start A New Chat.” Your current conversation will be saved for you to go back to you at any point. ### Continuing A Chat You can see a log of all the conversations you have had with characters on SpicyChat by selecting the “Chats” option in the main menu. From here, you can continue a chat with a character by pressing the “Continue To Chat” button. This will only show the most recent chat you had with a character. If you want to access any cloned and saved chats, you will need to do this from within the conversation. ### Performing Actions In Chat You can perform an action the same way your characters do. To do this, type the action you would like to perform into your message with an asterisk (\*) on both sides of the text. For example, if you entered "\*waves happily\* Hi! How's it going!" it would look like this in chat: > *waves happily* Hi! How's it going! In turn, your character would reply to this message as if you had waved and then greeted them. You can also use this to describe the setting, define roleplay scenarios, or describe things that are happening to you or your character. ### Response Length The length of a character’s response depends on several factors, including their personality, the [AI model](/product-guides/premium-features/ai-models) you are using, your [subscription plan](/product-guides/premium-features), and how many [tokens](/advanced/tokens-and-context) are available when generating the reply. Characters' responses are between 120 to 180 tokens. Premium users have access to a limit of 300 tokens for longer responses. ### Regenerating Messages Variety is the spice of life, and sometimes you want a new response to the same prompt. Regenerating a message let's you give the character another chance to reply. To regenerate a character’s last message, use the “Regenerate Response” icon located in the options beneath their reply.
You can also view every variation of the response using the arrows at the far left of these options. The variation you have selected will be saved as the response from the character once you reply.
### Continuing Messages To have a character continue their response without requiring a reply from you, use the “Continue Message” icon located beside “Regenerate Response.”
Choosing this option prompts the character to generate a new response within the flow of your conversation, even if you’ve previously regenerated or edited their last message. Generating too many messages without entering a reply can lead to repetitive responses. ### Editing Messages If you would like to edit a character’s reply directly, you can do so by selecting the three dots at the top of the right of the message and choosing the “Edit Message” option. This allows you to decide exactly what you want your character to say, and can be useful for guiding roleplays in the right direction. ### Formatting Messages SpicyChat offers many ways you can format you and your characters messages using things like headers, bold text, highlighted words and more. To view a full list of the markdowns that are available and learn how to use them, view our [Markdowns](/advanced/markdowns) page. ### Conversation Images You can visualize your conversation with generate images right from within your chats! The image will be created based on the avatar of the character and the last message. You can generate images in your conversation only if the subscription package you subscribe to supports Conversation Images. You can get full details on how Conversation Images work, their limitations, and how to get access to them [here](/product-guides/premium-features/conversation-images). ### Changing Your Persona You can change your name, your avatar, and even details about you by switching your Persona. To do this, select the three dots at the top right of the conversation and select the “Change Persona” option. This will take you to the Persona selection screen where you can select any Persona you have previously created. Changing your Persona in the middle of a conversation will not update references to your previous Personas name from messages or memories in the chat. You can learn all about Personas and how to create and manage them [here](/product-guides/premium-features/user-personas). ### Saved Chats Conversations on SpicyChat are automatically saved for you! This allows you to focus on roleplaying with your character without worrying about saving or losing your chats. * **Accessing Your Saved Chats:** You can access your saved chats with the character you are in a conversation with by selecting the three dots at the top right of the screen and selecting the “View Saved Chats” option. This will bring you to a screen showing all the conversations you have saved with that character. * **Continuing A Saved Chat:** You can continue any of your saved conversations by pressing the “Continue To Chat” button. * **Deleting A Saved Chat:** If you would like to delete any of your saved chats, you can do so by finding the conversation you would like to remove and pressing the “Delete” button. ### Cloning Conversations You can clone any chat, allowing you to continue chatting without modifying your original conversation. To clone a chat, select the three dots at the top right corner of the chat you want to duplicate, and choose the “Clone Conversation” option. You will be prompted to give your chat a title and select if you want a full or partial copy.
Your cloned conversation can be found and accessed from your saved chats with that character. ### Star Ratings You can rate the quality of any message you receive using the four stars located at the bottom right of a response. Star ratings send feedback on the quality of the AI generated response to the SpicyChat team. This allows us to get an idea of how well the LLM (Large Language Model) is performing and make improvements in the future based on your feedback. Rating a message will not directly affect your ongoing conversation in any way. If you experience a particularly good or bad response, rate it!
### Report An Inappropriate Character Response If you find anything a character says to be inappropriate, offensive, or not in line with our [Community Guidelines](/community-guidelines), you can report that message by choosing the “Report Message” option located in the menu found using the three dots at the top right of a response.
From here you can select why you believe the message is inappropriate from a predefined list. If none of the options apply to the message, you can select “Other,” at which point you will be prompted to explain why you are reporting it. Reporting a message will flag that response for review from our moderation team and remove the response from your conversation. You will then need to reply to the character again to continue your conversation with them. ### Can Creators See My Chat Logs? No! Your chats with characters are private. Any messages you send or receive are not viewable by the character's creator.



# Group Chat Roleplay like never before **Group Chats** bring multiple Chatbots into one shared conversation, allowing them to interact not only with you, but also with each other. Instead of a one-on-one exchange, a Group Chat feels more like stepping into a small world — where several characters coexist, react, argue, collaborate, and move the story forward together. With **2 to 10 Chatbots** in a single chat, Group Chats enable richer roleplay, layered storytelling, and more dynamic scenes where relationships, personalities, and events can unfold naturally. *** ### **Discovering Public Groups** You can either create your own groups or explore **public Groups** created by other users directly from the homepage and chat with them. Groups are shown mixed with chatbots on the homepage. If you wanna browse groups only, you can use the Filters to browse them by the size of members. * **Small (2–4)** * **Medium (5–7)** * **Large (8–10)** *** ### **How to Create a Group** #### **1. Access Group Creation** Open the side menu and go to **Create → Group**. This will take you to the Group creation page which is a bit similar to Chatbot Creation page.
#### **2. Set the Group’s Identity** Start by defining how your Group looks and how it’s presented to others. * **Cover Image:** Upload an image or generate one. * **Group Name:** A short name for your Group. * **Title:** A brief description explaining what the Group is about. This helps users understand the theme at a glance. #### **3. Add Group Members** Click **Add Members** to open the selection screen. Every Group must have **at least 2 and no more than 10 members**.
You can browse and select Chatbots in several ways: * Search by name * Browse using tags * Sort by different discovery options * Browse your Favourites
By default, you’ll be browsing the **Discover** feed, which shows public chatbots.\ If you want to add your own private Chatbots, switch the dropdown from **Discover** to **My Chatbots**. This allows you to include bots you’ve created yourself. Once you’ve selected your members, click **Save Members** to return to the Group setup page.
#### **4. Configure Chat Settings** **Who Sends the First Message? (Optional)** You can choose which Chatbot starts the conversation. * If you select a chatbot, that chatbot will send the first message. * If you select none, the Group Chat will start the chat with the greeting message coming from the group name.
**Greeting (Required)** The Greeting is the opening message that appears when a new chat begins. It sets the tone and introduces the scene. **Scenario (Optional, Recommended)** The Scenario provides shared background context for all characters. It helps the Group stay focused and consistent, especially in story-driven roleplay. If you want to reuse the same Group for different situations, you can leave this empty and guide the direction of the story through your messages instead. #### **5. Visibility & Member Compatibility** Your Group’s visibility affects **both who can see it and which chatbots can be added**. | Group Visibility | Allowed Chatbot Types | Best Used For | | ---------------- | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | | **Public** | Public only | Fully discoverable Groups. Subject to moderation. | | **Unlisted** | Public + Unlisted | Sharing via link without appearing in public listings. | | **Private** | Public + Unlisted + Private | Personal use and Groups with private bots. | {% hint style="info" %} All groups are moderated like regular chatbots, only public Groups will undergo human moderation before becoming publicly available. {% endhint %} #### **6. Saving or Creating Your Group** Once all required fields are complete, you can either click **Create Group and Chat** to publish the Group and start chatting immediately, or **save it as a Draft** to finish and publish later. Drafts can be accessed and edited anytime from **My Creations → Groups**. {% hint style="info" %} **Please note:** Drafts are saved locally on your device. They can only be accessed from the same browser and device and will be lost if you clear your browser cache. {% endhint %} *** ### **How Group Chat Works** Once inside a Group Chat, you control how the conversation flows. After a chatbot sends a message, a **Responder Selector** appears below the chat. This lets you decide who speaks next.
#### **Response Control** * **Manual Selection:** You can click any character to make them respond next. * **Auto Response (Premium):** With Auto response, the AI automatically selects the next suitable speaker based on the context when the user sends a message. If the message is sent by another characters, you simply click on Next button and system will pick the speaker. Auto Response is enabled on default and can be disabled in the chat settings.
* **Free Users:** Auto Response is disabled. You must manually choose the next responder. *** #### **Context In Group Chats** Since there are more than one chatbots and context memory is limited, to generate a response, only the persona of the user and the chatbot generating the response are added into the context. However, previous messages and memories are also added in the context so that the story is coherent and flows naturally. {% hint style="info" %} Group Chat performs better with the higher context memory and larger models, for the best possible experience, upgrade to one of our subscription tier. {% endhint %} *** ### **Managing Your Groups** You can manage all your Groups from **My Creations → Groups**. From there, you can: * View your published Groups * Access and edit drafts * Update group members or settings * Remove a Group *** ### **Best Practices & Tips** For the best Group Chat experience: * **Choose compatible characters.** Characters from similar worlds or storylines work best together. What happens if a Chatbot in a Group is removed from the platform? If a Chatbot is removed, it will be automatically removed from the Group. In existing messages, the Chatbot’s name will be replaced with the Group Name. If the number of remaining members drops below 2, the Group will become unusable until new members are added.
Is Group Chat available to all users? Yes. Group Chats are available to both free and premium users. Premium users have access to Auto Response (where the system selects the most suitable speaker) and benefit from longer context memory and larger models, while free users manually choose the next responder.
Can the group or chatbot creator see the messages I send? Your interaction with the chatbots and groups on our platform are always 100% confidential, no-one can see your interactions with any of the chatbots or groups.
# Creating Chatbots Creating a chatbot on SpicyChat is an exciting way to unleash your creativity and shape a truly unique experience. With full control over how your character looks, speaks, and behaves, you can build an AI character that reflects your vision. To start creating your character, select the "Create Chatbot" option from the main menu to open the creation window. Here, you'll find everything you need to bring your character to life. Every field you fill out helps shape their personality, behaviour, and style, giving you full control over how they interact during conversations.

They improve discoverability and make it easier for users to find your characters. In order to ensure that your characters have enough tokens to use for other aspects of the conversation, it’s a good idea to keep the total spent within 900 to 1,100 tokens. You can learn more about tokens [here](/advanced/tokens-and-context). ### **Advanced Creation** If you want greater control over your character’s behaviour and personality, selecting “Advance” unlocks two additional fields that let you fine-tune how your character responds and interacts, giving you more flexibility to shape a unique experience. It’s how they will appear in chats and what other users will see if you choose to make the character public. Choose a name that aligns with the purpose, personality, and storyline of your character.
You can set the name of your character by navigating to the “Name” section of the creation screen. Character names don’t have to be unique, multiple characters can share the same name.
* Names should be between 3 to 20 characters long, * You can use letters, numbers, spaces, dashes (-), and underscores (\_) in your character's name. * You can opt for a single name ("John"), a full name ("John Doe"), or a unique handle ("The\_John"). A character’s name can strongly influence how your character behaves, especially if they lack a detailed personality. Names tied to well-known figures, like “Shakespeare,” may prompt the AI to adopt traits or speech patterns commonly associated with that individual. If you haven’t provided a lot of information, the name becomes a powerful cue, influencing how your character engages in conversation. # Title An intriguing and accurate title can greatly increase the likelihood of users interacting with your character. Titles appear under your character’s name in search results and public listings, making them a key tool for attracting interest, describing your roleplay, and setting the right expectations.
All characters on SpicyChat are required to have a title. You can add a title to your character by navigating to the “Title” section of the creation screen.
* Titles should be a concise summary, ranging from 3 to 100 characters in length. * Your title should offer users a quick sense of who your character is or what they do. * An intriguing and accurate title can greatly increase the likelihood of users interacting with your character. Craft a title that accurately captures your AI chracter's essence while also engaging potential users' curiosity. For example, if your character's name is "Chef Antonio", a suitable title could be "Your Italian Cooking Guide" or simply "Italian Cuisine Expert." Titles are only used for display and discovery, it doesn't influence the character's personality. # Greeting The Greeting is your character’s icebreaker, the first message it sends when a conversation begins. It sets the tone, gives users a feel for the character’s personality or role, and plays a big part in creating an engaging first impression. Think of it as the character’s way of saying, “Here’s who I am, let’s chat!”
You can set a greeting for your character by navigating to the “Greeting” section of the creation screen. A greeting can be anywhere from 0 to 2,000 characters long and is required to complete creating your character. * The special variable `{{user}}` can be used to address the user directly in your greeting. For example, "Hello `{{user}}` ," would display as "Hello Julie" if the user's name is Julie. * The special variable `{{char}}` can be used to address the character directly in your greeting. For example, "Hello `{{char}}` ," would display as “Hello Jane” if the character's name is Jane. * You can use markdowns to format your message and make it more engaging. For example, if your chatbot is a fitness trainer named "FitGuru," your greeting might be: > Hey there, `{{user}}`! It's FitGuru here, your personal fitness coach. Let's set some goals and break some personal records today. Ready to sweat? *flexes* Greetings have substantial influence, especially if your character has minimal details or a non-descriptive name. You can use it to further define who your character is, set the scene for a roleplay, hint at the character’s tone or intentions, or even launch users directly into a scenario or game. # Personality Personality is the heart of chatbot creation. This is where you capture who your character is, how they speak, and the way they behave. Every trait that you define here shapes a unique identity for your character. To shape your character’s personality, enter your description in the “Chatbot Personality” section of the creation screen. Personalities can be a maximum of 5000 characters long.
You have the freedom to describe everything about your character, from their core personality to their thought processes. You can define their actions, likes/dislikes, history, and even the way they walk or talk. The personality you craft here will be the heart and soul of your character, take your time to craft something that truly represents them. ### Formatting Your Personality You can write your personality in various styles, for example, you could list your character’s traits with words in quotes, or choose to express their personality in simple, straightforward sentences. * **Boost Style:** With this approach, the character’s traits are defined using words or phrases, each enclosed in quotation marks and separated by plus signs.
* **W++:** This style organizes the information into distinct tags, such as character name, height, appearance, personality, and more. It provides a detailed, categorized view of the character’s profile.
* **Natural Language:** This method involves describing the chatbot’s personality in simple, conversational sentences.
There is no definitive “best” way to write your personality. Each formatting style offers its own advantages, and their effectiveness can often depend on the specific character and scenario. The key is to experiment with these styles, explore combinations, and discover what works best for your character. # Visibility The visibility settings give you complete control over who sees your character and how much information is displayed on their profile. You can decide who gets to interact with your character and how much of your character's personality is shared. ### Character Visibility You can control where your characters appear on SpicyChat by navigating to the "Visibility" section of the creation screen.
* **Public:** Selecting this option makes your character accessible to everyone, appearing in public listings and search results. It's perfect if you want to showcase your creativity and let the community interact with your creation. * **Unlisted:** An unlisted character won't show up in public listings or search results. You can share the link anywhere you like, but keep in mind that anyone who has it can access and chat with your character. * **Private:** Use this setting if you want to keep your character all to yourself. Private characters are only visible to you, they will not show up in public listings and sharing the link won’t allow others to access it. Keep in mind that while hidden characters are not visible to the public, they can still be seen by our moderators. If a character violates our [Community Guidelines](/community-guidelines), it will be removed, regardless of its visibility status. ### Definition Visibility Definition Visibility controls who can view the personality, example dialogue and scenario of your character. This feature promotes transparency, giving users insight into your character's core design and characteristics.
You can change this setting by navigating to the “Definition Visibility” section of the creation page. * **Public:** Setting Definition Visibility to Public gives users access to the details of your character's core persona, allowing them to see the example dialogue, personality, and scenario information. * **Private:** Setting Definition Visibility to Private will keep your character’s example dialogue, personality, and scenario details hidden from other users. Characters with their Definition Visibility set to Public will show a purple “i” icon on the selection screen, while characters with their Definition Visibility set to Private will show a black “i” icon.
# Avatar Your character’s avatar is their visual identity on SpicyChat, it’s the first thing users see before they even start a conversation. You can generate a custom avatar using our image generation tool, or you can upload your own image directly from your device. You must upload or generate an avatar to be able to complete the character creation process. A great avatar helps bring your character to life, making them more engaging, recognizable, and appealing to users browsing or interacting with them. ### Uploading An Avatar If you already have an image you’d like to use, you can easily upload it as your character’s avatar by navigating to the “Avatar” section on the creation screen. Your image should be 10 MB or less in size, with 1x1 dimensions, and in JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, AVIF, or JFIF file format. 1. Select “Choose File” under the “Avatar” section on the creation screen. 2. Browse your device to find and select the image you want to use. 3. Click “Save” to apply your avatar to your character. ### Generating An Avatar You can generate an avatar for your character using the image generation tool in the “Avatar” section of the creation screen. Keep in mind that the maximum limit for image prompt tokens is 30, you can learn more about tokens and how they work [here](/advanced/tokens-and-context). 1. Select “Generate Avatar” under the “Avatar” section on the creation screen. 2. Choose your generation style and enter your image prompt. 3. Press “Generate” to create your avatar image. 4. Select “Save” to apply the avatar to your character.
There are many settings you can use to help you generate your avatar exactly the way you want it. * **Generation Styles:** You can choose your generation style from the top of the image generation screen. SpicyChat offers multiple image styles, which one you choose will will decide the artistic style your image is generated in. Some generation styles are only available if you are an [I’m All In](/product-guides/premium-features) subscriber. * **Negative Prompts:** Under the Advanced image generation settings, you can use negative prompts to exclude unwanted elements from your image, like excessive makeup or jewellery. * **Image Guidance:** Image guidance lets you upload an image for the AI to use as a reference for your prompt. This will allow you to generate an avatar that resembles your guidance image while taking your image prompt and style into consideration. Image guidance can be found under the Advanced settings. * **Seed:** Seed Lock ensures consistent results, generating similar images with slight prompt modifications. Select the lock icon at anytime to lock your seed, then press "Generate" to see the results. You can find this option under the Advanced settings. For tips and tricks on how to craft prompts to generate images, see our [Image Prompts Guide](/advanced/image-prompts). # Tags Tags are short labels that describe your character’s personality, themes and roleplay style. Think of them as keywords that help other users quickly understand what your character is all about, whether it’s a genre, tone, or identity trait. These tags appear just below your character’s title and are used by the SpicyChat search and filter system to help users discover characters that match their interests.
To set tags for your characters, navigate to the “Tags” section of the creation screen. From here, you can choose up to 12 tags to add to your chatbot from a list of options. Always use accurate tags, they help users find your character and set clear expectations for how they behave. Using misleading tags may cause users to report your chatbot, leading it to be unpublished.
For better discoverability, it’s a good idea to select at least 3 tags that are closely tied to your character’s traits, role, or theme. Adding tags improves visibility and helps your character reach the right audience, making it easier for users to find your character based on the types of conversations they’re looking for. All public characters are required to have a minimum of 2 tags set to them to complete the creation process. # Advanced Settings Advanced settings give you the highest level of freedom to shape your character exactly how you envision them, but with that freedom comes added complexity. These settings offer users the tools to define very specific behaviours. Advanced settings are optional and not required to complete creating your character. You can access them by selecting "Advanced" on the creation screen. ### Scenarios The Scenario section lets you set the stage for your character's story, outlining the current situation, location, and defining how the roleplay might evolve.
A well done scenario can cleverly weave in important personality traits too. You can use it to highlight your character’s appearance, behaviours, habits, likes, and dislikes, giving users an even deeper sense of who they’re interacting with. For example: > Lily Rosewood, the kind and empathetic healer, might be in a peaceful garden surrounded by lush greenery, tending to plants with magical healing properties. Her gentle demeanour reflects the serenity of her surroundings, but perhaps there’s an urgent request from a nearby village that will push her into action. This simple scenario sets the tone for the conversation, gives depth to Lily's character, and introduces a situation that drives the roleplay forward. ### Example Dialogue Example Dialogue is where you bring your character’s voice to life. If your character has a unique way of speaking, favourite phrases, or a distinct tone or attitude, this is the place to capture it. \ You can add different examples showing how your character would react in various situations, like what they might say when they're excited, angry, or in danger. The more examples you provide, the better the AI can understand and replicate your character’s style during conversations.
* **User Tag:** Using the `{{user}}` tag will show the name of the user chatting with your character. * **Character Tag:** Using the `{{char}}` tag will show the name of your created character. * **Start Tag:** Use the `` tag to denote where a new example dialogue begins. * **Asterisks:** You can set the scenario of the conversation within asterisks (\*). This helps in defining the scene and providing additional context to the dialogue. Example messages should be long enough to provide context and include good references for the AI to work with.


# Creators Creators are at the heart of SpicyChat. Every character on the platform — every personality, every story, every quirky companion — was built by someone in our community. As a creator, you have the freedom to design the chatbots you want to see and share them with everyone else. This section covers everything you need to make the most of being a creator: sharing your work, getting recognized for it, and tracking how your characters are doing. ### Sharing your characters with the community Once you've published a character, the fastest way to find an audience is to share it where other creators and fans already hang out. We have two community spaces dedicated to exactly that: * **Discord** — drop your character in our [bot sharing channel](https://discord.com/channels/1108377954389594236/1118556747506913401) on the SpicyChat Discord. It's the most active place to get quick feedback and early users. * **Reddit** — post about it in our subrreddit by adding a `bot sharing` post flair, [r/SpicyChatAI](https://www.reddit.com/r/SpicyChatAI/). Sharing is also one of the best ways to improve. To visit one, just click a creator's name anywhere it appears on a character card. It's how we recognize the people whose characters drive the most engagement on the platform — and we reward the top spots with free subscriptions. You can see the current leaderboard at [spicychat.ai/creators/leaderboard](https://spicychat.ai/creators/leaderboard). ### Two categories There are two leaderboards published each month, each with its own top 25: * **New Bots** — characters created during that calendar month that performed well in their first weeks. This is the place for creators who are still building their catalog to get noticed. * **All Bots** — characters of any age that performed well during the month. Older characters with a steady fanbase compete here alongside fast-rising new ones. A bot is only eligible for **New Bots** during the calendar month it was created. After that, it's evaluated under **All Bots**. ### How rankings work Rankings combine several signals — including total messages, unique users, and a few other engagement metrics — into a single score for the month. We intentionally don't publish the full formula or the exact weights. This keeps the leaderboard fair and resistant to gaming. The leaderboard updates **once a month**, at the start of each new month, covering the previous month's activity. So February's results go live in early March. ### Rewards The top 10 creators in each category receive a free subscription for the month: * **Top 3** — *I'm All In*, our highest tier. * **Ranks 4–10** — *True Supporter*. You can see what's included in each plan on the [Subscribe page](https://spicychat.ai/subscribe). ### FAQ
How can I become a top creator? There's no single trick — but the creators who consistently make the leaderboard tend to do the same things: * They build characters with **depth** — detailed personalities, well-crafted opening greetings, and example dialogues. * They **share their work** with the community on [Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1108377954389594236/1118556747506913401) and [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/SpicyChatAI/), so real users can find it. * They keep iterating based on feedback. The more genuine engagement your characters generate, the better your chances. To track how your bots are performing in real time, check your Creator Analytics.
My chatbot didn't make the leaderboard. Why? Only the top 25 in each category are listed each month, so most bots — even very popular ones — won't appear. Your dashboard in Creator Analytics is the best place to see how yours is actually doing month over month.
When does the leaderboard update? Once a month, at the start of the next month.
# Creator Analytics Creator Analytics is your private dashboard for seeing how your characters are doing on SpicyChat — how many people are using them, how engaged those users are, and how they're rating your work. You only see your own data. No one else can see your dashboard, and you can't see anyone else's. ### How to access it There are two ways in: 1. **From your chatbots list** — go to **My Creations → Chatbots** and click **Creator Analytics** at the top right.
2. **From a character's profile page** — click **Analytics** (chart icon) in the action row, next to *Chat Now*, *Favorite*, and *Share*.
### What you see at the top The top of the dashboard shows seven cards summarizing how all your characters are doing together:
* **Total Requests** — how many replies your characters generated in total. Every time a user sends a message, regenerates a reply, or runs autopilot counts as one request. * **Unique Users** — how many different people chatted with at least one of your characters. * **Conversations** — how many separate chat sessions happened across all your characters. * **Active Characters** — how many of your characters had at least one user interaction. * **Avg Depth** — on average, how many messages each conversation lasted. The smaller text below shows the request-to-conversation ratio (how many replies you generated per chat). * **Avg Rating** — the average rating users gave your characters, on a 0–100% scale. The smaller text below shows how many ratings were collected. * **Net Likes** — how many users added your characters to their Favorites, minus those who removed them. A breakdown is shown underneath (e.g. *+88 / −41*). > **Pick a date range.** Use the buttons at the top of the dashboard (**7 Days**, **30 Days**, **90 Days**, or **Custom**) to change the time period these numbers cover. The default is the last 30 days. {% hint style="info" icon="thumbtack" %} Analytics start from **January 1, 2026** — anything earlier isn't available. {% endhint %} ### Daily Trends Below the summary cards is a chart showing how your numbers change day by day. Use the tabs at the top of the chart to switch what you're looking at:
* **Requests** — daily total requests and unique users. * **Avg Depth** — daily average conversation depth. * **Likes** — daily likes, unlikes, and net likes. * **Rating** — daily average rating and ratings count. Click any item in the chart legend to hide or show that line — useful when you want to focus on just one metric. {% hint style="info" %} **A note on Likes.** Favorites tracking only began on **February 3, 2026**. If your selected range starts before that date, the Likes tab won't show data from before then — and the Net Likes summary card at the top will read **N/A**. {% endhint %} ### Your Chatbots After the chart, you'll see a table listing all of your characters that received at least one interaction in the selected period. The table breaks the same metrics down per character so you can compare them side by side.
You can: * **Search** by character name or tag using the search bar above the table. * **Sort** by Requests, Users, Depth, Rating, or Net Likes by clicking the metric name above the table. * **Click any character** to open its individual analytics page — same metrics and trend chart, but scoped to that one character. * **Export CSV** to download the full list as a spreadsheet, using whatever sort order and date range you currently have selected. ### Character Map At the bottom of the dashboard is the Character Map — a one-glance view of how your whole catalog is performing:
* **Position on the chart** — characters further to the right got more total requests; characters higher up have deeper average conversations. * **Color** — green dots are characters with strong ratings (≥80%), orange are average (≥60%), red are below 60%. * **Size** — bigger dots mean more unique users. Hover over any dot to see that character's name along with its requests, depth, rating, and net likes. This is the fastest way to spot which characters are punching above their weight, and which ones might need a refresh. ### FAQ
How fresh is the data? Analytics update on a schedule (Once every 24 hours). Depending on the metric, you may see a delay of up to a few hours between something happening in chat and it appearing on the dashboard.
What counts as a "Request"? Any user-driven action that asks a character to generate a reply: sending a new message, regenerating a reply, or autopilot. Each action counts as one request — so regenerating the same reply three times is three requests. Just typing into the input without sending isn't a request.
What counts as a Like? A user added your character to their **Favorites** list. An "Unlike" means a user removed it from Favorites. These are not per-message reactions.
Why is Net Likes negative? More users removed your character from their Favorites than added it during the selected period.
Why don't my older characters appear in the table? The table only lists characters that received at least one request in the selected date range. Try widening the range to **90 Days** or use **Custom** to go back further.
Can I download a copy of the data? Yes — use **Export CSV** above the table. The export contains the full character list for your current sort order and date range.
Whose data am I seeing? Only your own. There's no way for another user to see your data, and no way for you to see theirs.
# Director Mode Director Mode is your way of directly talking to the LLM, providing instructions to the AI on how to perform the roleplay. Using simple `/cmd` instructions, you can directly influence the conversation, making it perfect for moments when the AI needs a nudge, a course correction, or a burst of creativity. ### What is Director Mode? Director Mode empowers you to guide an AI chatbot with precision using the `/cmd` command. With this feature, you can issue custom commands to influence character behaviour, shape dialogue, and control the direction of the story. From managing plot progression to ensuring a character stays true to their personality, Director Mode helps keep the experience aligned with your creative vision. * **Full Story Control:** Shape every interaction and guide characters to behave exactly how you want them to. * **Custom Instructions:** Use simple `/cmd` prompts to adjust responses, introduce creative plot twists, or redirect the conversation if the AI strays from your narrative. * **Break Repetitive Loops:** Keep things fresh by prompting characters to move the story forward, shift the tone, or change their behaviour. * **In-Character Guidance:** Ensure characters stay true to their personalities and follow the story you’ve set in motion. ### How To Use Directors Mode You can guide a character using Director Mode by adding specific instructions to your message using the `/cmd` command. These commands are read directly by the LLM and are not considered a part of the message, but they will influence how the AI responds in the conversation. * **Use Separate Lines:** Always place your `/cmd` instruction on a new line after your message. This ensures the command is properly recognized and applied. * **Model Compatibility:** Effectiveness may vary depending on the AI model you're using. Some models are more responsive to `/cmd` instructions than others. * **Get Creative:** Director Mode is a powerful storytelling tool, use it to tweak character behaviour, guide plot development, or shape entire scenes to fit your vision. For example, if you enter the following message: > Hi Essie, when were you created? > \ /cmd Essie should refuse to give out personal information. The AI will understand the instruction and respond accordingly, in this case they will refuse to share their creation date.
Here are a few examples of `/cmd` commands you can use in your conversations: * **`/cmd break out of the loop and stop repeating`****:** This command may stop the AI from repeating itself and getting stuck in conversational loops. * **`/cmd Essie is suddenly very hungry`****:** Commands like this can influence the character you are chatting with to feel certain ways or perform certain actions. * **`/cmd Essie should refuse to give information about the treasure`****:** You can use these types of commands to prompt your character to withhold specific information, adding tension to your roleplay. # Search Command #### Overview LLMs (Large Language Models) are powerful—but they don’t know everything. Their knowledge is limited to the data they were trained on, which means they can’t automatically access **recent news, real-world events, or live information**. That changes now. With the new **`/search`** command, you can connect your conversations to the internet in real time. The AI will look up the most relevant and up-to-date information, summarize it, and use it naturally in the chat—so your character stays informed, responsive, and a little more human. #### 🔍 How It Works When the system detects a **`/search`** command in your message: 1. A real-time web search is performed using your query. 2. A short summary of the results is integrated directly into the current context. 3. The AI then uses that new information to generate a natural reply. {% hint style="info" %} 💡 **Note:** The additional information stays in the contexx **only for as long as the original message remains in the model’s active context**, which depends on your subscription tier and context memory {% endhint %} #### 🧠 How to Use It To use the feature, simply type the **`/search`** command on a **new line** in your chat, followed by your question or topic. ``` /search [your question or topic] ```
Once sent, the search will be performed and summary of that search will be added to the context to generate the next response.
#### 💬 Example Prompts **Example 1 — Checking Timezones** ``` /search current time in Tokyo Looks like we’ll miss our dinner reservation if it’s already late evening there. ``` → The AI finds the local time in Tokyo and responds naturally based on it. **Example 2 — Cultural Context** ``` You tighten your grip on the charm hanging from your neck, whispering a quiet prayer. /search traditional Japanese talismans used against demons ``` → The AI searches the traditional Japanese talismans and the response is based on that. **Example 3 — Pop Culture Update** ``` You’ve been bragging about your favorite driver all week—did he actually win? /search who won the latest Formula 1 race ``` → The AI searches live results and responds with the outcome. #### 💡 Tips for Best Results * Keep your **search request short and clear.** (Think: “weather in Paris today,” not “tell me the entire forecast for this month.”) * You can use **`/search`** anywhere in the message—it doesn’t have to be at the start. * Keep the search relevant to the current context and story. # Lorebook ### Overview! Think of a **Lorebook** as your character’s *world memory*. Your character’s description (persona) can only hold a limited information — just the basics about who they are and what they do. \ \ A **Lorebook** is where you can store much more — details about the world they live in, other characters, events, items, or special rules that shape your story. Instead of cramming everything into the character’s profile, you can keep all that extra information safely inside a Lorebook. \ Then, when you chat, the system automatically brings up only the **relevant parts** at the right time.So your character always remembers what’s important — without getting confused or running out of space. ### 🧩 How it Works * A Lorebook is made up of **entries** (think of them like statements of information). * Each entry has two main parts: 1. **Keywords** — triggers that tell the system to load the entry’s content into the chat context. 2. **Content** — the facts or story that should be added to chat context when those keywords appear.
* When any of the keywords show up in the **last 4 messages** (both {user} and {char}), that entry’s content is added to the chat’s **context and** used to generate a new response. * It stays active for about **2 turns** (user message and the AI’s next one). If the keyword keeps coming up, it stays active longer. * The system limits how much lore can load at once so that the whole context memory is not consumed by the lore — about **20%** of the total context memory. * Around **740 tokens** for Free users. * Around **1600 tokens** for True Supporters. * Around **3,080 tokens** for I’m All In users. ### ✏️ Creating a Lorebook 1. Go to the **main menu** and click **Create → Lorebook.** 2. You’ll see a new Lorebook page. Fill out these parts: * **Name:** What your Lorebook is called (for you to recognize it). * **Description:** A short summary (this doesn’t affect chat). * **Cover Image:** Pick or generate an image that fits your world. * **Tags:** Add relevant tags.
1. Click **Add Entry** to start building your Lorebook. 2. You can have up to **5,000 entries** in one Lorebook. (coming soon) You'll also be able to **import** Lorebooks from other platforms*.*\ Just upload them in **.JSON** format — they’ll appear in the editor and can be edited right away. ### 📜 Adding Entries Each entry is one piece of information — such as a character, place, event, or rule. **Here’s what you’ll fill in:** * **Name:** A label for your entry. * **Keywords:** * Add words or phrases that will “wake up” this entry. * Type one, then press **Enter** to save it. * You can add several keywords for one entry. * Keep them specific — like names or key terms. * If two entries share a keyword, both will be added when that word appears in chat. * **Content:** * Write the info that should be added to context. * Keep it clear and simple — 2–5 sentences are usually perfect. * Maximum: **1,000 characters per entry.** **Example:**
If You or the Character mention “café” in chat, that bit of information will be added to the chat context, generating a response based on that info. ### Keyword Matching #### Prefix and Suffix You can use a `*` symbol (called a wildcard) to match parts of a word.\ This helps trigger lore when the keyword appears as part of a bigger word. **Examples:** * `*book` → will match “storybook,” “notebook,” “logbook” * `home*` → will match “homeland,” “homework,” “homemade” #### Recursive Entries Lore entries can’t trigger each other.\ That means if one entry mentions another keyword, it won’t cause more lore to load.\ Only the actual chat messages are checked for keyword matches — not the content inside other entries. #### Multiple Words Keywords can include more than one word, but the full phrase has to match exactly. **Example:** * The keyword `coffee shop` will only match when **coffee shop** appears together in chat — not if the words are separated. #### Shared Keywords If two or more entries share the same keyword, they’ll all be added to the context when that keyword appears in chat. #### Using {{user}} and {{char}} You can also use `{{user}}` and `{{char}}` as keywords.\ These automatically match whenever the user’s name or the character’s name is mentioned in chat.\ It’s a handy way to add background information when someone refers to the user or the character directly. ### 🔗 Attaching a Lorebook to a Character 1. Open your **Character Editor**. 2. Scroll to the **Advanced** section. 3. Under **Lorebook**, click **Attach Lorebook.** 4. Pick one from your list and hit **Save.** Once attached: * The Lorebook connects to that character’s all chats. * You can **Edit** or **Remove** it anytime. * **Only one Lorebook** can be attached to a character. * Any changes you make to the Lorebook apply to existing chats as well — no need to reattach.
### 💡 Tips for Better Results ✅ **One topic per entry.**\ Each entry should focus on one thing — one character, place, rule, or event. ✅ **Be specific with keywords.**\ Use specific names or titles — not general words like “world” or “magic.” ✅ **Keep content short and factual.**\ Don’t write full stories in one entry — just what’s needed for the AI to stay accurate. ### ❓FAQ **Q: Can I use more than one Lorebook per character?**\ A: Not right now — one per character. **Q: Can I add Lorebooks to public characters?**\ A: No, right now Lorebooks are only supported for private characters **Q: Can I share my Lorebook with others?**\ A: Not yet. This powerful feature lets you craft unique identities for your conversations, changing how characters interact with you! Whether you want to roleplay, organise different chat styles, or experiment with various identities, Personas give you the flexibility to shape your AI interactions in a way entirely unique to you. ### Creating Personas To create a Persona, navigate to My Personas and select "Create New." Each Persona can have its own name, avatar, and highlights. Highlights can include things such as your style, mood, appearance or role. It is recommended that you keep your highlights between 1 - 2 sentences to ensure characters will accurately refer to you based on your Persona. ### Managing Personas You can add, delete, modify and select your default Personas from within the "My Personas" page. When you start a new chat with a character, you will be prompted to choose which Persona you would like to use for that conversation. Your selected Persona will be displayed in the list of previous conversations when continuing your chat. Starting a new conversation with a character you have chatted with before will default to the Persona you used previously. If the Persona you set for a chat is deleted, the conversation will revert to your default profile.
### How Many Personas Can I Have? By default, you can have up to 3 Personas, but you can expand the amount available by subscribing to one of our subscription tiers. * **Get A Taste:** Up to 10 User Personas * **True Supporter:** Up to 50 User Personas * **I’m All In:** Up to 100 User Personas If you exceed your Persona limit after downgrading your subscription, you will need to remove enough Personas to fit within your current subscriptions limit before you can create or edit any new ones. You can learn about our subscription options and everything they have to offer [here](/product-guides/premium-features). # Conversation Images Conversation Images on SpicyChat are AI generated pictures that visually depict the events, characters, and scenarios happening in your chat. These images are dynamically created based on the conversation context, bringing your interactions to life with unique artwork styles. Whether you're engaging in storytelling, roleplaying, or casual chat, Conversation Images enhance the experience by adding a visual element. You can prompt your character to generate an image based on their last response by selecting the Conversation Images icon (pictured below).
Conversation images are only available to users who are True Supporter or I’m All In subscribers. ### What Characters Support Conversation Images? If you are a True Supporter subscriber, Conversation Images are only available for select characters. You can determine if a character is supported by checking for the Conversation Images icon (pictured below). I'm All In subscribers can generate an image from any character available on SpicyChat, regardless of if they have the Conversation Images icon or not.
Conversation Images are only available for your created characters if you are an I’m All In subscriber. This feature will work better for characters that have their physical attributes defined in their definition, such as hair color or eye color. Defining your character as male or female will help maintain consistency in images when it comes to gender. ### Image Settings You can change the settings by navigating to Generation Settings and selecting Image Settings. From here, you can change the generation style, LoRA scale, and toggle both NSFW and Legacy Mode on and off. * **NSFW Mode:** NSFW (Not Safe for Work) Mode allows Conversation Images to generate mature and adult-themed content, including nude depictions of your character and explicit situations. Characters will not generate images that go against our [Community Guidelines](/community-guidelines). * **LoRA Scale:** LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) Scale controls the level of influence the custom trained model has on image generation. A higher LoRA scale results in images that adhere more closely to a character’s predefined look and style, while a lower scale allows for more flexibility and variation. The default LoRA Scale is 0.8, providing a balanced mix of character accuracy and creative freedom. * **Legacy Mode:** Legacy Mode allows users to switch to an older version of image generation. This mode is useful for those who enjoyed the previous version of Conversation Images and want to continue using it. Your settings will automatically apply to all characters you chat with and cannot currently be customised on an individual character basis. ### Generation Styles Generation Styles determine the aesthetic used to create your characters' Conversation Images. SpicyChat currently support two image styles: * **Anime:** Your characters will generate images in an anime art style, featuring expressive facial features, and a stylised aesthetic inspired by Japanese animation. This style is defined by large, detailed eyes, sharp line work, and exaggerated expressions to convey emotion. * **Semi-Realistic:** Your characters will generate images in a realistic art style. This style maintains proportional facial features, realistic lighting, and detailed textures, while still allowing for creative flourishes. It is ideal for users who want a more lifelike appearance from their characters.
Your settings will automatically apply to all characters you chat with and cannot currently be customised on an individual character basis. ### What Are The Limitations For Conversation Images? SpicyChat does not use a specialised LLM (Large Language Model) to generate image prompts, which means it might not always include important elements about a character's physical attributes and in some cases may not consider the context of your conversation. Conversation Images use the same diffusion model as our Avatar Generation tool, which is DreamShaper-8. This model has a bias toward generating images of caucasian females due to the way it was trained. In some cases, it may turn a man into a woman, or not respect skin color. As images are trained on only one picture, the generated image may occasionally look different from your character. This is especially true when the reference image is low quality, shows your character at a poor angle, or uses strange colors. # Text-to-Speech The Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature offers an enhanced way to experience your conversations. Exclusively for I’m All In subscribers, this functionality allows you to listen to chat messages in a voice of your choice. ### Using Text-To-Speech Text-to-Speech is available for all of the characters on SpicyChat. You can prompt any character to read out a message in a voice of your choice. You listen to audio versions of any message, even previous ones in the conversation. 1. Open a chat with any character on SpicyChat. 2. Click the “Play” button located underneath the message you want to hear audio for. 3. Sit back and listen to your character read out the message! There are no limits on how many messages you can use Text-to-Speech with, go crazy!
### Setting A Characters Voice SpicyChat offers multiple voices to choose from, both male and female, for you to use with the Text-to-Speech feature. 1. On your first play, select the “Voice” button under the message you want to hear. 2. A voice selection interface will appear, browse through the available voices. 3. You can select the play button next to a voice to preview it. 4. Select the voice you want to use and press the “Select” button. The character will now use the voice you selected for all messages you press “Play” for in the chat. If at any point in the selection process you no longer wish to set a voice, press the “Cancel” button to return to the chat.
If at any point in a conversation you want to switch the voice you are using with Text-to-Speech, you can change it to another option. 1. Select the three dots at the top right hand side of a conversation. 2. Select “Change Voice Model.” 3. Choose the voice you want to switch to and select “Change.” You can cancel changing your character's voice and continue using your previous choice at any time by pressing the “Cancel” button. ### Narration Mode Narration Mode transforms your chat into a full audio experience. Unlike standard Text-to-Speech, this feature reads the entire message — not just the character’s dialogue, but also action text and narration. This is the perfect option for users who are looking for a more audiobook style experience from their roleplays. You can toggle Narration Mode on and off from the Voice Change menu: 1. Select the three dots at the top right of the conversation you wish to use Narration Mode with 2. Press the “Voice Change” option 3. Toggle “Include Narration” to on and press the “Select” button Narration Mode is only available for new messages, previously generated messages will be unaffected.
### Help Us Improve Text-To-Speech We are always looking to take all our features on SpicyChat to the next level. You can help us improve Text-to-Speech by rating your experience. 1. Select the three dots at the right hand corner of the message you want to rate. 2. Select “Rate Voice Quality.” 3. Choose your desired rating and push the “Done” button. If you want to return to the conversation without finishing your rating, select the “Cancel” button. Get ready to redefine how you connect and chat. Text-to-Speech is more than just a feature; it’s a whole new way to experience your favourite interactions! # Custom Voices Custom Voices let you create your own voice options to use with Text-to-Speech. Instead of being limited to the default voice library, you can upload audio samples, generate a unique voice from them, and attach it to any of your characters. Once a Custom Voice is set as a character's voice, anyone playing TTS on that character will hear your voice — it becomes part of the character's identity. {% hint style="info" %} Custom Voices are an **I'm All In** subscriber feature. {% endhint %} ### Creating a Custom Voice Creating a Custom Voice is a three-step process: open the creation form, fill in the details and upload your audio, then let it process. #### Step 1: Open the Custom Voice form 1. Open the sidebar menu. 2. Expand the **Create** section. 3. Click **Voice**. This opens the Custom Voice creation form. #### Step 2: Fill in the details On the form, complete the following fields: 1. **Name** — Give your voice a memorable name so you can find it later (up to 20 characters). 2. **Description** — Add a short description of the voice, such as its tone or mood (up to 100 characters). 3. **Language** — Select the language your audio samples are recorded in. 4. **Attach voice** — Click the upload area or drag and drop your audio file(s). {% hint style="info" %} **Upload requirements** * MP3 or WAV format only * Between 5 and 30 seconds of continuous speech per clip * Up to 3 clips per voice * All files combined must be under 4 MB {% endhint %} #### Step 3: Create the voice Once all the fields are complete, click **Create Voice**. Your voice will then be sent for processing. This can take a while, so don't worry if it isn't ready immediately. ### Previewing and Saving Your Voice Once processing is complete, you can preview the result before deciding to keep it. 1. Go to **My Creations**. 2. Open the **Voices** tab. 3. Find your new voice and press the preview button to listen to it. 4. If you're happy with the result, save it. Your saved voice is now ready to be attached to a character. {% hint style="info" %} You can have up to **20 Custom Voices** on your account at any time. {% endhint %} ### Adding a Custom Voice to a Character A Custom Voice doesn't do anything on its own — it has to be attached to a character. Once attached, it becomes part of that character's identity and will play whenever someone uses Text-to-Speech with the character. 1. Create a new character, or edit an existing one. 2. On the edit page, scroll down to the **Attach voice** section. 3. Select the Custom Voice you want to use. 4. Save your character. {% hint style="warning" %} If your character is **public**, anyone using it will hear your Custom Voice when they use Text-to-Speech. {% endhint %} ### Tips for Creating Great Custom Voices The quality of your source audio directly affects how good your Custom Voice sounds. These best practices will help you get the best possible result. #### General best practices * **Choose a script that matches your target voice.** Your recording should reflect the voice you want to generate. If you want an energetic, expressive clone, don't read a flat script in a monotone — pick a script with the right energy and emotion. * **Record clearly in a quiet space.** Use the best microphone you have access to, and record somewhere quiet. Background noise, echo, or muffled audio will all show up in the final voice. * **Avoid long pauses.** The cloned voice mimics the pacing of your recording, including pauses between sentences. Keep your delivery natural and continuous. * **Trim your recording.** The clip should be roughly all speech from start to finish — no silence at the beginning or end, and no cut-off words. Free tools like Audacity make it easy to clean up a recording. * **Speak in the target language.** If you want your voice to speak English, record in English. Recording in a different language than your intended output will reduce quality. * **Keep your recording around 10 seconds.** This is the sweet spot for high-similarity clones. Longer clips do not produce better results. * **Lower the Response Max Token setting in chat.** When using your Custom Voice in chat, setting **Response Max Token** to its minimum value usually gives the best-sounding output. # Semantic Memory 2.0 New improved version of our memory system for longer conversations Semantic Memory 2.0 helps your AI remember important details from your conversations in a more efficient way. Instead of simply searching past messages and using that information for responses, the system creates “memories” that capture key details from your chat. This allows characters to retain more information over time, making interactions feel more natural and consistent while staying within the memory limits. Basically, Semantic Memory allows characters to remember more than is possible with Context Memory, in a way that you can tailor and manage however you see fit. ### How Does Semantic Memory Work? As you chat, the AI summarises important details from past messages into compact memories rather than storing full messages. This makes it possible to keep more relevant information available, allowing characters to remember more about your conversation.\ \ When generating responses the AI searches its memories to find the most relevant details instead of just pulling information from all previous messages. If there are more memories than the system can use at once, it priorities the most relevant ones for your current conversation. For new conversations, the character will generate memories based on the last 8 to 10 messages, capturing details in groups of 4 at a time. If you're continuing an old conversation, the character will process earlier messages when you send your next message. It does this in batches of 60 messages at a time, so the first response may take a little longer to generate while it builds the memory. ### Editing And Deleting Semantic Memories You have full control over how the AI makes use of Semantic Memory through the Memory Manager, allowing you to edit, delete, pin or add memories. Even if you delete or edit messages in the conversation, the associated memory will remain in the Memory Manager until you manually update it. Managing your AI’s memory is optional, but it provides transparency so you can see exactly what the character remembers and adjust it. This ensures your experience is personalised and consistent. They determine how a character thinks, responds, and interacts with you. Each model has its own strengths, traits, memory, and level of creativity and precision. Some AI models may be better at storytelling, while others excel at answering questions or remembering details. By choosing a specific model, you're deciding how your chat will feel, giving you the freedom to tailor your experience on base level to what you want to roleplay, create, and get out of your overall SpicyChat experience. ### How Do I Change AI Models? You can change which AI model you are using for a conversation at any time. 1. Select the three dots at the top right hand corner of the conversation. 2. Choose “Generation Settings” in the list of options. 3. Navigate to the “Inference Model” section. 4. Select “Change Model.” 5. Choose the AI Model you wish to use. Some AI models are only available if you are a Get A Taste, True Supporter or I’m All In subscriber. ### Context Memory Context Memory is the amount of information the AI will process each time to generate a response, including a characters personality, memories, and your user persona. Your previous chats are then processed with the remaining space. This helps your character keep track of what’s happening in your conversation, allowing them to remember what you talked about earlier in your chat and generate a coherent response. The more memory an AI model has, the further back the character you are chatting with can remember, leading to more natural, immersive, and life-like conversations. ### AI Model Parameters Parameters are like little dials inside the AI model. During training, the AI reads a large amount of text and adjusts the dials to learn how words and ideas fit together. Each AI model has a set amount of parameters, for example, a 12B model has 12 billion parameters. The more parameters a model has, the more complex concepts it can learn, which leads to more nuanced or intelligent responses. While larger models can often generate more sophisticated or complicated messages, they also require more computing power, which means they may take longer to generate a response than a model with a smaller number of parameters. ### What AI Models Does SpicyChat Offer? SpicyChat offers a wide range of AI models for you to choose from, each with their own strengths, context memory, and size. Each model offers a unique experience for you to enjoy when chatting with characters. Your created characters will adhere more strictly to your personality prompts when using DeepSeek V3, allowing them to stay in line with their unique personalities better than in previous models. This leads to characters feeling more distinct from one another, creating vibrant and interesting responses that fall in line with the prompts you provide. ### How Do I Access The DeepSeek V3 Model? DeepSeek V3 is available exclusively to our I’m All In subscribers. Once you have subscribed, you can access it the same way you do all of our other AI models: 1. Open a chat and select the three dots at the top right. 2. Select the Generation Settings option. 3. Navigate to the Inference Model section. 4. Select Change Model. 5. Choose DeepSeek V3! # Memory Manager The Memory Manager allows you to add, remove and edit the specific things your character remembers within a conversation. This can be details about their past, specifics about your relationship with them, or anything else you can dream up! ### Accessing The Memory Manager You can access the Memory Manager from within an ongoing chat with any character on SpicyChat. 1. Select the three dots at the corner of your chat. 2. Select the "Memory Manager" option to view and adjust the characters memories. In order to gain access to the Memory Manager, you need to have a few messages within the conversation and be a Get A Taste, True Supporter or I’m All In subscriber. You can get more information on our subscription options and the features they offer [here](/product-guides/premium-features). ### Creating Memories You can create new memories for a character by selecting the “+” button at the top right corner of the Memory Manager. Memories are limited to 250 characters and work best when you are brief and direct about what you want your character to remember. 1. Enter the details on the memory you wish to add within the text box. 2. Once you have completed adding your memory, select the “Add” button. 3. Your memory will be added to the Memory Manager, allowing your character to reference it within the conversation. If you decide you no longer want to go forward with adding your memory, you can select the “x” button at any time to cancel your submission. ### Editing Memories You can edit memories you have previously added using the Memory Manager. 1. Select the three dots next to the memory you want to edit. 2. Select “Edit Memory.” 3. Add or remove any information you want to the memory. 4. Select the “Save” button to save your changes. If at any point you decide you do not want to apply the changes you made, you can select the “x” button to exit the memory without saving your changes. ### Deleting Memories You can delete any memory that is currently set to a character that you no longer want them to have access to. 1. Select the three dots next to the memory you want to remove. 2. Select the “Delete Memory” option to remove the memory. Deleting a memory will only prevent a character from mentioning it further, it will not remove or alter any messages that currently reference it. Once a memory has been deleted, it cannot be restored. ### Pinning A Memories Pinning a memory will ensure any prompts used for generating a character's message will include that memory, meaning they will always take that memory into account and reference it frequently. 1. Select the three dots next to the memory you wish to pin. 2. Select the “Pin Memory” option to pin the memory. ### How Does Semantic Memory Affect The Memory Manager? Semantic Memory will utilise the Memory Manager to automatically store important information from the chat. This helps improve the characters memory without you having to add them in manually.\ \ You can edit, delete, and pin memories created by Semantic Memory the same as memories you added in manually. Prohibited Topics: * Underage Content: All narratives must involve individuals aged 18 or older. * Non-Consensual Activities: No bot should depict, promote, or involve in any non-consensual actions, even in fictional settings. * Incestuous Relationships: Content suggesting incest is not allowed. * Hate Speech: Discrimination or hostility towards any race, religion, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation is banned. ## 5. Respect for Personal Rights: * Creating chatbots based on real, private, or lesser-known individuals is strictly prohibited. Only fictional characters or public figures may be used as inspiration. * Uploading real photographs or AI-generated portraits that depict or resemble actual individuals is not allowed, regardless of whether those individuals are public or private. * Chatbots based on public figures or fictional characters are permitted, provided no real or realistic imagery is used. This excludes individuals who have publicly stated they do not wish to be sexualized or objectified. * Edited or modified photographs of real people, including composites, morphs, or deepfakes, are prohibited under all circumstances. * Uploading or generating hyper-realistic or photorealistic images that could reasonably be mistaken for real human beings is not allowed. ## 6. Specific Content Guidelines: **Extreme Violence:** Depictions of extreme violence are allowed only if not combined with sexual scenarios. Mixing extreme violence with sexual content is strictly prohibited. **Explicit Imagery:** NSFW GIFs are permissible, provided they do not depict hardcore imagery. Plain images of genitalia, be it phallus or vulva, are not allowed. **Aging Up Characters:** Aging up characters from canonical ages is allowed if:\ \ -They are explicitly mentioned as being over 18.\ \- Their visual representation is consistent with the stated age.\ \- Ageing up of human actors from movies is prohibited.
**Youthful Demeanors:** Bots with youthful or childlike demeanors will be scrutinized and evaluated individually, even if they are listed as 18 or older.
**Glorification of Crime:** Bots glorifying or portraying dictators, war criminals, terrorists, or any recognized criminals in a positive light are strictly prohibited. **Self-Harm:** Bots promoting self-harm or any form of illegal activities are strictly prohibited and will be banned immediately. **Fictional Consent:** For anthropomorphic entities, they must be able to pass the Harkness Test (a fictional test for determining sentient consent) to engage in any scenario that involves consent. Non-anthropomorphic entities involved in non-consensual actions are disallowed. **Respect and Responsibility:** Users are accountable for their bot interactions. Bots should respect boundaries and avoid harm. **Prohibited Pornographic Content:** Any pornographic content exhibiting photorealism, to the extent that it cannot be easily distinguished from actual photographic imagery of real human individuals, is strictly prohibited. This rule applies irrespective of the method of creation, encompassing both AI-generated and computer-simulated pornography.\ \ **Original Characters (OCs):** Users are advised against using Original Characters (OCs) from other platforms without the original creator's permission. We prioritize creators' rights and will take prompt action on any content that infringes on these rights if reported.\ \ **Incestuous Scenarios:** Scenarios, role-plays, or discussions that depict or imply incestuous relationships, including those between blood-related family members, are strictly prohibited on Spicychat. This includes any content that directly or indirectly references incestuous relationships. **Family-Related Role-Plays:** We prohibit any form of family-related role-play. This extends to all scenarios involving step-family relations, in-law relations, and any other family dynamics, whether or not they are blood-related.\ \ **Relationships of Power:** Relationships involving power dynamics, like guard-inmate, are allowed given our platform's virtual nature. **Sex Trafficking:** We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for our services being used in any manner associated with, assisting, or facilitating any acts of prostitution or sex trafficking. # Tokens & Context Tokens are the pieces of text the AI uses to read your messages and generate replies. Every word (or part of a word), symbol, and emoji uses tokens. Understanding **tokens** and the **context window** helps you get longer, more consistent chats. ### What are tokens? Tokens are the units the AI uses to process text. Every time you: * send a message * receive a reply * create a character * write a greeting, scenario, or example dialogue …you are using tokens. Token limits depend on your chosen [AI model](/product-guides/premium-features/ai-models) and your subscription tier. ### How tokens affect character creation When creating a character, every field uses tokens: * personality * greeting * scenario * background and lore * example dialogues You can see token usage under each text box. {% hint style="info" %} A common target is keeping character setup concise (often around **800–1,100 tokens**). This leaves more room for the conversation. {% endhint %}
### What is a context window? The **context window** is the amount of text the AI can “see” at one time. It uses that text to generate the next reply. Think of it like a desk with limited space: * your recent messages are on the desk * the character definition is on the desk * recent replies are on the desk * generation instructions and settings are on the desk When the desk gets full, older messages are removed to make room. #### Why this matters If an older message no longer fits, the AI may not use it. That can break continuity in long chats. Older details stay consistent if they are: * repeated * summarized * stored using memory systems {% hint style="success" %} Simple rule: the AI remembers the most recent parts best. {% endhint %} ### Why older messages get forgotten AI does not have unlimited live memory during a chat. Larger context also increases: * cost * response time * compute usage To keep SpicyChat fast and affordable, we set context limits by tier. ### How the context window fills up (examples) Your context window is shared by everything the AI needs for a reply, including: * character definition * recent messages * recent replies * generation instructions and settings So even if your tier supports 4,096 tokens, not all 4,096 are available for chat history. #### Example: Free tier (4k token context) Let’s say: * character definition = **1,000 tokens** * average message (user or bot) = **\~150 tokens** That leaves roughly **3,096 tokens** for recent conversation content. This is before extra formatting and instruction overhead. At \~150 tokens per message, the AI may only keep around **20 recent messages** visible. This is a rough estimate. {% hint style="info" %} Exact numbers vary with message length, character setup size, and generation settings. {% endhint %} #### Example: I'm All In tier (16k token context) With a larger context window, more of the recent chat stays visible. In many chats, this means dozens more messages stay “in memory”. Choose the “Generation Settings” option. 3. Change the Inference Model or tweak the Inference Settings to match your preferences. Some settings are only available to premium subscribers. ### Inference Models The Inference Model refers to which AI model the character is using to generate responses in the conversation. Adjusting Inference Settings is available only to True Supporter and I’m All In subscribers. ### Temperature This setting controls how tame or wild a character's responses will be. By default, Temperature is set to 0.7 and can be adjusted from 0 to 1.5. * At a low temperature, the character will play it safe, choosing more predictable answers that are reliable and clear. This is ideal for users who want the conversation to stay focused and consistent. * At a high temperature, characters become more adventurous, encouraging more diverse and creative responses. This can lead to unexpected conversations that can be fun and surprising, but may be less precise and coherent. ### Top-P (Nucleus Sampling) Top-P (or nucleus sampling) is a setting that controls how much a character explores its options before deciding which words or phrases to use when crafting their responses. It’s a great way to balance between keeping a conversation on track and letting characters think outside the box, giving you the freedom to choose how creative or focused you want the conversation to be. * When set to a lower value, the character focuses on a smaller set of words or phrases, resulting in responses that tend to be more stable and reliable. * A higher value expands the character's creativity, giving them access to a larger pool of words and phrases to choose from. This provides more variety, creativity, and unexpected responses. The default value for Top-P is 0.7, with options to set it between 0.01 and 1. ### Top-K Top-K allows users to limit how many word options characters can consider. It allows you to control the range of a character's vocabulary, helping you strike the right balance between precision and imagination. * With a lower Top-K value, the character limits their vocabulary to fewer words, making responses more focused and reliable. This helps to reduce the chance of generating replies that don’t make sense. * A higher Top-K value gives characters a broader selection of words to pick from, encouraging interesting and unexpected responses. This comes at the cost of characters potentially using sentences that are strange and difficult to understand. The default value for Top-K is 90, with a range from 1 to 100. ### Response Max Tokens This setting lets you fine-tune how a character responds. By default, responses are capped at 180 tokens, but True Supporters and I’m All In subscribers can increase this to a maximum of 300 tokens for longer, more detailed replies. Keep in mind that a higher token limit doesn’t guarantee longer or complete responses. The character may still give shorter answers depending on the conversation. The composition emphasizes the calmness of nature, with soft, diffused morning light and a mist gently rising from the lake's surface. # Importing Characters If you have a favourite character on Character.AI that you’ve grown attached to, there’s no need to leave them behind — you can easily upload them and continue the conversation on SpicyChat. ### Downloading A Character From Character.AI In order to download a character from Character.AI, you'll need an extension called CAI Tools. It's available for both [Chrome](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/cai-tools/nbhhncgkhacdaaccjbbadkpdiljedlje?hl=en) and [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cai-tools/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org\&utm_medium=referral\&utm_content=search). 1. In your browser, go to the page for the character you want to import to SpicyChat. Once you're on the character’s page, look for the CAI Tools button located in the top right corner of the page.
2. Click on the CAI Tools button to open a pop up with several options. Go to the “Character” section and download either a .json file or a .png file. * **JSON:** A .json file, or “Character”, includes only text data, such as the character’s description and interactions. You’ll need to upload or generate an avatar on SpicyChat. * **PNG:** A .png file, or “Character Card”, is a universal format compatible with SpicyChat, because it includes both the character’s image and description data in one file, you don’t need to upload an avatar.
### Uploading A Character To SpicyChat Once you have your json or png file, select “Create Chatbot” from the main menu and navigate to the Avatar section. Select the “Import” button and upload your file to SpicyChat.
This will fill the name, greeting, and personality fields with the data for your character, you will still need to fill in the tags, visibility, and advanced options manually. Once you’ve finished, press the “Save” button to complete your character. # Mobile Apps SpicyChat is available on **mobile devices**, but availability differs between iOS and Android. * **Android**: An official SpicyChat app is available via direct [APK download](https://spicychat.ai/download) from our website * **iOS**: No native app is currently available, but SpicyChat can be added to your home screen for an app-like experience Details for each platform are explained below. *** ### Android Devices SpicyChat offers an official Android app that can be downloaded directly from our website. We welcome responsible security research that helps us identify and fix vulnerabilities affecting our platform, user accounts, private data, payments, subscriptions, and related systems. This Bug Bounty Program rewards eligible researchers who responsibly disclose valid security vulnerabilities. Rewards are based on the severity and real-world impact of the issue, and are issued on a **first valid report** basis. ### Scope This program is focused on traditional web, application, API, account, payment, and data security issues affecting SpicyChat. **What we reward.** Our bounties are for *security vulnerabilities* — flaws that let someone cross a boundary they are not authorised to cross, with impact on **other users or the integrity and availability of the service**: unauthorised access to or modification of other people's data, accounts, or subscriptions; privilege escalation; remote code execution; secret or credential exposure; or taking the service down for others. Content or moderation concerns should be reported through our normal support and reporting channels. #### Other Out-of-Scope Items The following are also out of scope: * Third-party services we do not own or operate * Payment processor vulnerabilities outside our own implementation * Discord, Reddit, social media, or community platform issues * Hosting provider or infrastructure provider issues not caused by our application * Marketing pages, blog posts, status pages, or non-production assets unless they create a clear security impact * Social engineering, phishing, impersonation, or contacting staff/users * Physical attacks or device access * Denial-of-service attacks, DDoS, load testing, or volumetric testing * Brute force or credential stuffing * Automated scanner output without a working proof of concept * Self-XSS requiring a user to paste code into their own browser console * Issues only exploitable on outdated, unsupported, rooted, or jailbroken devices * Missing security headers without a demonstrated exploit * Clickjacking on pages without sensitive actions * Open redirects without account takeover, credential theft, or comparable impact * Tabnabbing or low-impact UI redressing * **Self-serving abuse / business-logic limits.** Using a flaw — including race conditions or repeated/concurrent requests — to get more out of your *own* account than your plan intends: exceeding usage or quota limits (e.g. creating more personas, images, or messages than your tier allows), or accessing a paid feature without paying, where the beneficiary is your own account. This is out of scope. We may still fix these as product bugs. * Rate-limit weaknesses without a complete attack chain that reaches impact on other users or the service itself (chaining a limit bypass purely to exceed your own account's limits does not qualify — see *Self-serving abuse / business-logic limits* above and *What we reward*) * Reports based only on disclosed software or library versions without a working exploit * Reports requiring unrealistic attacker access or privileged positioning {% hint style="info" %} This program is for security vulnerabilities only. We still welcome reports, but because these are already known and tracked, new reports of them are treated as duplicates under our First Valid Report Policy and are not eligible for a bounty: * **Image metadata (EXIF) not stripped from uploaded images.** Images uploaded to our platforms (for example, profile pictures) may retain the original metadata embedded by the device that captured them — such as camera or device details, timestamps, and in some cases GPS coordinates — which can be read from the served image. This concerns the uploader's own image data and is being addressed as a privacy-hardening improvement. * **Uploaded images remaining accessible after deletion.** An uploaded image may stay retrievable from its direct (unguessable) URL for a period after the related content or account is removed, until storage cleanup completes. This concerns the uploader's own image data and is being addressed as a data-lifecycle improvement. * **Session tokens remaining valid until expiry after logout.** Logging out ends your session on the current device, but the session token is not revoked on our servers and stays valid until it naturally expires; there is also no control to remotely sign out of all other devices. The impact is limited to your own session token on a device under your control, and this is being addressed as a session-management hardening improvement. OpenAI is a company that creates smart chatbots, like ChatGPT, that can talk to people in a natural way. These chatbots use artificial intelligence (AI) to understand questions and give helpful answers.There are some downsides to using the OpenAI with SpicyChat: * **Cost:** Utilizing OpenAI’s API comes with a cost. For more information on how much you can expect to spend using OpenAI, visit their [website](https://openai.com/api/pricing/). * **Moderation:** OpenAI has implemented moderation to prevent inappropriate content, and may sometimes be overly cautious and excessively filter responses. This could result in the omission and/or modification of messages that are within the acceptable boundaries of the current roleplay scenario. #### What Is An API Key? An API key is like a secret password that lets a program or app connect to a service. For example, if you want your app to use Google Maps, weather updates, or an AI chat model, the service provider (like Google or OpenAI) gives you an API key.It's important to keep your API key private. If someone else gets access to it, they could use the service as if they were you, which may cost you money. #### Get Your OpenAI API Key To get an OpenAI API key, you will need to follow these steps: 1. **Register For OpenAI:** Visit the OpenAI website and sign up. If you don’t want to use your email address, you can register using a Google or Microsoft account. 2. **Create An API Key:** If you need to create a new OpenAI API key, select “Create New Secret Key." Give your API key a name, select “Create,” and then copy the key. 3. **Find Your API Key:** To find your API Key, click on your name in the top right corner to bring up a dropdown menu. Click the “View API Keys” option. 4. **Configure Your API Key:** Within the “Profile Settings” page of SpicyChat, under “Advanced Settings”, navigate to the "OpenAI Key" section, and enter your API key into the text box. If you want to revoke your OpenAI API key, just click the trash can icon next to the key you want to delete and click “Revoke API” to permanently disable it. #### OpenAI Modes When configuring your OpenAI key you have the option to select one of three modes. This determines how the API will interact with SpicyChat. For example, you can get OpenAI to be more tolerant of NSFW conversations by switching it to Hybrid mode. * **Disabled:** SpicyChat will use the default text generation models. Your key has been stored, but you won’t be using OpenAI. * **Enabled:** OpenAI will be used for all your text generation requests on SpicyChat, even if the moderation filter is triggered. * **Hybrid:** The OpenAI model will only be used if the OpenAI moderation is not getting triggered. If moderation is triggered, your response will be generated using SpicyChat’s default AI model.
